Its marketing is through Multilevel Marketing – face to face recruiting. There are approximately 570,000 sales associates internationally. It has a complex compensation system that many find cumbersome. Mannatech began its business as the result of scientific research and potential healing power of “mannose” a sugar extracted from Aloe Vera. A powder “Ambrotose” was developed containing other essential sugars that are part of normal healthy cell structures. The nutritional supplements are meticulously formulated of natural ingredients, are of high standard and unique in their composition.
Many health recovery and improvement claims from customers, scientists and health care providers suggested that Ambrotose with other supplements would heal many conditions. There were not sufficient unbiased scientific results to support these claims. As a result the company faced several legal battles which their credibility for a while. Health claims were then prohibited by associates.
